TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Despite afternoon sun highs will remain well below average for this time of year and in the mid-upper 40s. The good news is today will be the coldest day for a while with highs warming up in the 50s and 60s (possibly even in the 70s) for the next 7 days.

Precipitation wise we had our final round of precipitation for a while last night south of I-70. There aren’t any storm systems anywhere close to northeast Kansas even hinting at any rain as we end October and begin November. So that means we’re heading into a quiet weather pattern with temperatures the main concern.

8 Day
8 Day(WIBW)

This Afternoon: Sunny. Highs in the mid-upper 40s. Winds N 10-20, gusting up to 30 mph.

Tonight: Clear with areas of frost. Patchy fog is possible as well which if temperatuers are below freezing may lead to a few slick spots on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses. Lows in the low-mid 30s. Winds become calm.

Tomorrow: Sunny. Highs in the upper 50s-low 60s. Winds SW 5-10 mph.

This weekend a cold front will be pushing through late Saturday but all it will do is shift winds and bring cooler temperatures for Sunday. Other than a few clouds it will remain dry. 60s expected Saturday with winds S/W 10-20, gusting up to 30 mph and 50s on Sunday with winds NW 10-20, gusting up to 25 mph.

Next week temperatures rebound back in the 60s with even 70s possible as early as Tuesday but will keep it more in the mid-upper 60s for now Tuesday and Wednesday and adjust in the coming days if it looks like we’ll be warmer.

Taking Action:

  1. While it will be breezy on Halloween Day, winds are expected to diminish by sunset and should be at 10 mph or less for the evening. This all depends on the speed of the cold front. If the front pushes through during the evening, winds may remain breezy.
  2. No problems at all Tuesday for Election Day so if you don’t plan to vote early, weather can’t be an excuse not to go out on Tuesday to vote.
