St. Joseph, Mo. (WIBW) - Emporia State drops a tough road contest against No. 22 Missouri Western, losing 70-61.

It was a physical match-up where the Hornets continued to play the Griffons tight. With under 10 minutes left, Emporia State hit back-to-back threes to pull within 6 points.

From that point, both teams traded buckets on way to the final score.

The Hornets had a massive performance from Jumah’Ri Turner. He scored 26 points, leading all scorers. Unfortunately, Turner’s great performance was overshadowed by ESU’s inability to hold onto the ball. Emporia State committed 28 turnovers, leading to 26 points for the Griffons.

Emporia State (5-3) hits the road next to play No. 1 Northwest Missouri on the road at Maryville. Tip off is scheduled for Jan. 9 at 2:00 p.m.
