Sunday night fire damages pair of central Topeka homes
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A Sunday night fire caused an estimated $32,500 in damage to a pair of homes in central Topeka, authorities said.
The blaze was reported at 8:59 p.m. Sunday at a two-story residence at 1179 S.W. Garfield.
The house was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived on the scene.
Heavy flames were reported to have been coming from the rear of the home when crews arrived.
Firefighters searched the interior of the home and found no one was inside the residence.
Topeka Fire Marshal Todd Harrison said because of the flames, a neighboring house at 1177 S.W. Garfield also sustained damage.
The fire was reported out at 10:08 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicated the cause of the fire was undetermined.
Of the estimated $32,500 in loss, $25,000 was associated with the structure and $2,500 to its contents.
The estimated loss also included $5,000 in structural damage to the neighborhing house at 1177 S.W. Garifield.
No injuries had been reported as of early Monday.
The American Red Cross was called to the scene to provide assistance to the home’s occupants.
