Dogs at HHHS look to cast spells on the hearts of potential new fur-ever homes at Hairy Pawter Adoption Special
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Dogs at Helping Hands Humane Society are looking to cast a spell on the hearts of potential new fur-ever families at its Hairy Pawter Adoption Special until June 13.
Helping Hands Humane Society says Dogwarts students from houses Gryffindog, Hufflepup, Slobberin and Ravenpaw are eagerly awaiting their forever homes for the summer and beyond. It said it currently has 42 adult and senior dogs available for adoption, which is one more than fits in its main adoptable dog room equipped with 32 kennels. While two of the pups are in foster care and can be brought to the shelter for a scheduled meeting, eight others are in another kennel room of HHHS and can be brought out by adoption counselors for an in-paw-son meeting.
“One of our volunteers came forward and offered to collect donations towards an adoption special to help find some of our long-term resident dogs families,” said Emi Griess, communication coordinator. “Our adoptions team has seen several suggestions from the public about doing a Harry Potter-themed event, and we thought this was the perfect opportunity! Hairy Pawter and the Forever Homes is a way to have fun with the theme while getting deserving dogs into good homes.”
According to HHHS, adult dogs 5-months to 6-years-old are normally $150 to adopt, but June 10 through Sunday, June 13, will only be $75 to adopt. It said senior dogs, 7-years and older, are usually $75 to adopt, but during the event will only be $25. All adoptable dogs have been spayed or neutered, microchipped and have received all age-appropriate vaccinations, as well as have been started on monthly heart-worm prevention and flea and tick prevention.
HHHS said high profile pets and puppies are not included in the special, as puppies are not quite old enough to attend Dogwarts and high profile pets are visiting students from Beauxbichons Academy of Magic and Doguestrang Institute.
Adoption hours are from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. HHHS said adoption processes will most start within 30 minutes of closing due to how long it takes to complete an adoption.
