Officers respond Thursday to pair of locations in west Topeka
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Topeka police officers investigating separate incidents responded to a pair of locations around the same time late Thursday morning on the city’s west side.
Topeka police officers and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers were seen in a parking lot between the Baymont Inn hotel on the north and the Cracker Barrel restaurant on the south.
As officers responded to the area, Topeka police blocked a portion of the 1200 block of S.W. Ashworth Place. The location was just east of S.W. Wanamaker Road and south of S.W. Huntoon.
Police Lt. Manny Munoz said activity near the Baymont hotel resulted from some leads on a homicide suspect who may have been in the area. However, the suspect wasn’t located and officers cleared the scene around 12:45 p.m. Thursday.
Topeka police late Thursday morning also responded to the EconoLodge hotel at 1518 S.W. Wanamaker.
Police spokeswoman Gretchen Spiker said a person of interest in an ongoing investigation was taken into custody at that location.
The investigation for which the person was taken into custody wasn’t related to a homicide, Spiker said.
Police cleared the scene outside the Econo Lodge as a silver car was towed from the parking lot.
