Armed homicide suspect dies after shot by Topeka Police
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Topeka Police Department says an armed homicide suspect is dead after he was shot on Friday morning.
Officials say the incident happened around 11:15 a.m. near the 700 block of SW Polk.
Multiple police officers were involved in the shooting.
No officers were injured.
TPD Police Chief Brian Wheeles confirmed that the suspect shot was related to the Wednesday homicide on SW Briarwood.
Lees was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
On Thursday that suspect was identified as Jesse Lees, 33, of Topeka. TPD says Lees suffered possible life-threatening injuries.
Two wrecked vehicles were surrounded by crime scene tape near 8th and Polk. Officials would not comment on their involvement in the incident.
TPD says as per department policy, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation will investigate the incident. The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is underway.
As of 12:30 p.m., 8th Street at Polk was completely shut down.
Per TPD policy, the involved officers have been put on paid administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
