K-10, Haskell Ave. exit reopen after early morning pileup
LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) - Kansas 10 Highway and its Haskell Ave. exit to Lawrence have reopened after an early morning pileup.
Around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28, the Douglas Co. Sheriff’s Office says officials reopened Kansas 10 Highway and the Haskell Ave. exit to Lawrence after a crash closed the busy roadway.
About an hour earlier, at 7 a.m., officials said they closed the road due to a 3-vehicle accident in the westbound lanes of K-10. Drivers had been urged to use the Iowa St. exit instead.
The Sheriff’s Office said that just after 6:30 a.m. crews were called to the area after the crash was reported. When officials arrived, they found a 2008 Toyota passenger car had stopped in the right lane of westbound traffic on the highway.
According to officials, a 2018 Dodge Journey was unable to avoid the stopped Toyota and had been traveling at a high rate of speed, rear-ending the vehicle. The collision caused the Journey to veer into the left lane where it hit a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze.
The Sheriff’s Office indicated that the 43-year-old driver of the Toyota, from Missouri, was taken to LMH Health with non-life-threatening as a result of the accident.
