Fire destroys Topeka man’s home on Christmas morning
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - According to Shawnee County Dispatch, a house fire was reported Christmas morning, Saturday, December 25th, at 408 SW Lincoln.
According to a Facebook message from a viewer, a GoFundMe was created for the victim of the fire. In the GoFundMe it states that the fire was started by a space heater.
According to the Topeka Fire Department, fire crews learned that four adults and one child had escaped the house prior to their arrival.
A member of the TFD’s Fire Department Investigation Unit returned to the scene to conduct an investigation to determine the origin and cause of the fire. They determined the cause to be accidental, more than likely associated with an electric space heater left too close to combustibles.
One adult man sustained non-life threatening injuries during the fire. The victim refused to be transported to the hospital and was treated on scene. The estimated cost of damages from the fire is estimated be $90,000, $60,000 of which is associated with structural loss and $30,000 in losses to contents inside the home.
