Two injured in Wednesday morning crash north of Topeka
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Two people were transported to a local hospital after a car and pickup truck collided early Wednesday just north of Topeka, authorities said.
The collision was reported at 7:48 a.m. Wednesday in the 4800 block of N.W. Topeka Boulevard.
Deputy Abigail Christian, Shawnee County sheriff’s spokeswoman, said the collision occurred when a black Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck that was northbound on N.W. Topeka Boulevard was waiting to turn left -- or west -- onto N.W. 48th Terrace.
Christian said as the truck was waiting to turn, it was struck from behind by a black Ford Fusion passenger car.
The Ford had heavy front-end damage and came to rest facing north on Topeka Boulevard at N.W. 48th Terrace.
The Chevrolet pickup truck came to rest in the east ditch of Topeka Boulevard about a block north of N.W. 48th Terrace. The truck appeared to have sustained damage to its rear portion.
Shawnee County sheriff’s officials said two people from the Ford -- a man and his elementary-school aged son -- were transported by American Medical Ambulance to a Topeka hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
Christian said the man who was driving the pickup truck refused medical treatment.
North- and southbound traffic in the area of the crash was restricted to one lane at a time as crews cleared the scene.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene because of the damage they sustained.
