TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - One person was transported to a local hospital after a pair of pickup trucks collided early Thursday at a major intersection in southeast Topeka.

The collision was reported around 8 a.m. at S.E. 45th and Adams.

Shawnee County sheriff’s told 13 NEWS at the scene that the crash occurred when a black Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck that was eastbound on S.E. 45th was preparing to make a left -- or northbound -- turn onto S.E. Adams when it collided with a silver Ford F-150 pickup truck that was headed west on S.E. 45th.

The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck told sheriff’s deputies that the sun obscured her vision just before the collision, officials said.

After the impact, the Ford pickup truck spun about 180 degrees and came to rest facing east in the westbound lanes of S.E. 45th, just west of S.E. Adams. The Ford pickup truck had substantial damage to its driver’s side door area.

The Chevrolet pickup truck, which had major front-end damage, came to rest in the westbound lanes of S.E. 45th facing northwest.

The driver of the Ford pickup truck was transported by American Medical Response ambulance to a local hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, officials said.

Westbound traffic on S.E. 45th was shut down for about an hour as crews cleared to the scene.
