13 at 65: Gov. Colyer honors WIBW TV's 65th Anniversary
Since 1953, WIBW-TV has covered 16 different Kansas gubernatorial administrations.
The man who currently occupies the governor’s mansion, Gov. Jeff Colyer, took time to pay tribute to our 65 years of broadcasting.
“This is something that is historic. WIBW has been here for 65 years and it has a great story just here in Kansas,” Gov. Jeff Colyer said.
Several members of the current WIBW team visited the statehouse as Gov. Colyer signed a proclamation recognizing the stations 65th Anniversary.
“It’s the Kansas News Leader. It is somebody that’s really talking about your neighbors and you know what’s going on,” he added. “It’s a lot of fun to sign this today.”
Channel 13 signed on in the middle of Republican Edward Arn’s first and only term. Since then, 13 NEWS has covered the inaugurations of 15 governors, capturing the history of the Sunflower State all along the way.
We will celebrate our 65th Anniversary on Thursday, November 15th.
