A Lawrence Bakery is serving up fresh baked goods with unique drinks
Once a laundromat, the small building sitting at 1900 Barker Ave. in Lawrence is now a bakery and coffee shop.
"We specialize in artesian breads, French style pastries, and specialty coffee,” the bakery’s owner and co-founder Taylor Petrehn said.
1900 barker makes everything in house.
"You'll find like big French style loafs. We generally have about five to eight varieties every day,” Petrehn explained.
Their most popular item is the croissant.
"Super flaky, super delicious. So we use the best ingredients we can find,” Petrehn described.
They also serve a variety of unique beverages.
"All the just artistry that goes into making our baked goods and preparing our drinks is really beautiful just on its own and so we want you to be a part of that and see how it's made,” Petrehn said.
1900 Barker was also nominated for a James Beard Award for the last three years. They made it all the way to the semi-finals.
"We were considered one of 20 top bakers in the country for that award. Yeah it's a huge honor. We're the only establishment in Lawrence to have been nominated ever in the past,” Petrehn explained.
If you decide to visit the bakery you can take your order to go sit inside where Petrehn said you will feel like you are at home.
"You can easily see everything we are doing behind the bar, and we want you to be a part of that by grabbing a cup of coffee and sitting down and observing,” he added.
Petrehn is renovating another laundromat in Lawrence. This one will be a donut shop. It will open in the spring.
