A favorite of longtime residents, a Manhattan restaurant has been serving the community for over 50 years.

In 1964, Charles and Martha Streeter opened their family owned restaurant on a hill overlooking a beautiful meadow, giving inspiration to the name, Vista Drive-in, which is now owned by their son Brad Streeter.

“My parents took over in the early ‘70s, at times we’ve had multiple stores, but we got to the point to realize that just having the one store was best for us.” Vista Drive-In, General Manager, Andy Streeter says.

Following his father into the family’s restaurant was something Andy has been doing since he was a kid.

“I’ve realized I understand three things: food costs, labor costs, and people. Obviously I grew up in the business, I’ve been working here on and off since I was, you know, ten-twelve years old,” Andy says.

Vista’s most popular menu item is the ‘Vistaburger’, which you can also get in a ‘Vista-combo’ or a ‘Vista-basket’.

“Back in the ‘70s it was the ‘Vista-basket,’ before the industry came about with the combo meals, which is the sandwich, fries and salad,” Andy says.

Regulars agree on the reason they keep coming back to Vista…

“Been coming to Vista for years, got the best hamburgers in Manhattan,” long-time regular, Rick Borg says.

“Been coming to Vista for as long as I can remember, and I like their burgers,” long-time regular, Ray Borg agrees.

Along with the restaurant, they also have a food truck they now use for special events and the county fair.

“We got the food truck when K-State was remodeling the Union a few years ago. So we were up there straight for about a year and a half, two years. Now we pretty much do special events.” Andy says.

Andy said that when his dad is ready to retire, he and his brother, Matt, will continue to keep the restaurant in the family.

“We’ve had a pretty good run, so far, and I’m sure we can keep it going. You know 54 years so far, we can probably come up with another 54 I’m sure.” Andy says.

‘Still fixin' it like YOU like it!’ Vista Drive-In is open every day from 7am to 11pm, and they even have rooms you can reserve for a large group gathering.
